Best Place and Direction of Installation of Solar Water Heater or Collectors

The angle and direction of installation is also of great importance as it will effect the efficiency of the solar water heater and solar collector. Naturally you want the collector to receive the maximum amount of sunlight each day and throughout the year. As a general rule your SWH should face South  and best place of your installation is roof top.

On average 1000 kWh per m2 p.a. energy  is produced  which corresponds to roughly 100 litres fuel oil or 100 m3 natural gas. Collector type, as well as inclination and orientation, play a vital role

too.Insolation level of any area is key factor and in Pakistan it is about 800 watt/Sq.m Energy input is in the unit kWh/m2/day. 1 kWh/m2/day = 317.1 Btu/ft2/day.
A solar  collector system with a 30º inclination and an alignment of 45º south-west still achieves almost 95% of its optimum yield. Even with an east or west alignment, you can still expect up to 85% with a roof slope between 25 and 40º. A steeply raked  SWH surface offers the advantage of a balanced energy provision all the year round.
